Duct tape is generally made of cotton duck cloth and is a durable plain-woven fabric often coated with polyethylene. There are some substitutes used in its manufacturing. For its application in heating and cooling products, it incorporates heat-resistant foil tape.
It is generally gray but it can also be found in several other colors and designs depending on the area of its application.
How is Duct Tape manufactured?
It consists of various components including cotton, polyester, nylon, rayon, or fiberglass to provide strength. Its color depends on different fragments as for gray the Low-density polyethylene gets mixed with aluminum powder. These tapes are offered in different sizes as 48mm and 51mm are the most common ones.
Common Uses of duct tape.
It is mostly used in situations that require strong, flexible, sticky tape as well as weather resistance. The gaffer tape is known for the specific feature that it does not leave residue when removed. For this reason, it is used in the media industry.
Duct tape with its tensile strength can be used in shoe repair, production of wallets, and medical applications to treat warts by covering them with duct tapes for an extended period.
